You Can’t Quit Now

May 16th, 2009

I Peter 4:10-11

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Christ Jesus. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

A few years ago, I told God I wanted to work for Him and He gave me a job, one that I’ve spent the last few days trying to quit. My God has spent the weekend telling me that I don’t have a choice in the matter, that it’s too late to quit, that I’m His. I’d like to share the powerful ways He’s spoken to me.

…through a once homeless, recovering addict from L.A. who believes God can turn all the bad stuff in your life into good, a guy who taught himself to play guitar and now minister to people all over the world through his music.

…through three girls from Chicago who believe wholeheartedly that God has known us since before time began, that He has a special destination for each of us and that He’ll take us there if we just walk beside Him.

…through a personal encounter with a former drug dealer/cocaine addict who fell to his knees and cried out to God to save him and is now a sold-out believer in the power of God.

…through a voice on the radio that said it doesn’t matter how many years you’ve wasted, God can still complete the work He desires through you.

…through my husband, who reminded me that people can see my heart through the simple movements of my fingers, and that it is a gift from God.

…through my pastor, who always comes through when I least expect it.

…through my children, who got up at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday after very little sleep so they could minister to our church through the awesome musical ability God has blessed them with.

…through a brother in Christ, whom I’ve never laid eyes on, who told me not to let my circumstances determine my path in life.

…directly to my heart. When I cried out that I needed Him, He answered clearly, “I need you, too.”

There will come a day when I will stand before the Lord and He will ask me what I have done with what He gave me; I want Him to be able to say, “Well done.” I still don’t know where this road will take me, only that He walks beside me, holding my hand, and that it’s a journey I don’t want to miss.

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he had promised. For in just a very little while, “He who is coming will come and will not delay. But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.” But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.” Hebrews 10:35-39
