As promised, here’s a list of features that we’ve added, scrapped, or are planning on releasing in the future:
The New
- The largest difference that you will notice is our weblog. This was previously the Deeper News section. Our hopes are to keep you up to date with interesting articles we find on the internet, random thoughts, and news about the website. Also, we would like to invite guest bloggers to take the helm for limited periods of time. Do you blog? Send us a link to your website and we may grant you access to the DD weblog for a week if we like what we see!
- Additionally, we have added the ability for you to play our podcasts directly from our home page. You now have even more ways to keep up with our devotions!
- From the Archives is a new feature added to the middle column of our site. It will randomly pull an article from our archive of over 150 stories. Don’t like the one you currently see? Click the refresh button on your browser to load another one.
- One more note, to leave comments on an article, weblog entry, or devotion you see on the home page, simply click on its title and then scroll down to the end of that post.
The MIA (Missing in Action)
While our redesign has brought easier navigation and new features, we also trimmed some dead weight in the process. Here’s a run down:
- We have decided not to include the forums in the latest addition of DD.com. Our forums never really caught on and we felt like they were an eye sore we could live without. Prior to switching over, the most recent post was 5 months old! I’m sorry, but it was time to say goodbye.
- Also parting ways with the new design are our user journals. Although these tended to have a little more activity than the forums, the users were few and the posts were far between (like one a month). Therefore, the journals are gone. Fear not though, if you would like for us to send you a copy of your entries, we made a backup. Send us your old username and well forward you what we have.
- Speaking of usernames, you no longer have to login to interact with us at DEEPERDEVOTION.com. From now on, comments are for everybody (although they do go through moderation before they appear on our site). So, if you can’t find where you’re supposed to login… that’s because you cant! Sorry.
The Future
While we are happy with the appearancence and the function of the new site, there are still several features we would like to include in the future. If you have any suggestions that aren’t already listed below, please leave us a comment!
- Deeper Devotion hopes to include tags or keyword functions to the site in the near future. Along with our categories and search option, these will help you more find what you’re looking for more quickly.
- Downloadable resources for students and youth pastors alike. These may include devotionals, articles, etc.
- The ability to send this post to a friend will allow you to share the things you like.
- Hmm… I’m pretty sure there is more coming down the pipeline, but we’re not ready to spill the beans yet.
Well, that’s the story for now. Let us know if you have any complaints, complements, or suggestions. Register them in the comment section or by sending us an email.
Looks great. I just did some spring cleaning also and switched from Movable Type to WordPress. You did a great job on the makeover and I still read your devotionals.
Wow! So excited to see the new site. Let me know if I can be of some help. Would love to write some more devotions for you. I will be sure to tell my readers about this site! Blessings to you in Christ.
also, check out my blog at http://www.undergodshands.blogspot.com
ps. having a hard time finding your rss for your blog. Can you publish that somewhere visible on this site, perhaps toward the top?
Thanks, have a great weekend.
I know I already told you at work, but the redesign looks great, and I know it took a lot of time and coding to get everything functioning. As always, I’m available to write if you need me.
