Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
I went backpacking this weekend with two of my best friends. We carried all of our gear into Linville Gorge on our backs. When I left the house my backpack weighed thirty pounds. By the time we returned it weighed almost forty pounds.
It rained for most of the time that we were there. We hiked down the mountain in rain, we set up our tents in the rain, we ate our food in the rain, and we went to sleep in the rain. I’ve never been so wet and miserable in my life.
It would have been easy to allow the rain, the blisters, and the flame-retardant wood to ruin our weekend… But we didn’t. Instead, we enjoyed each other’s company. Todd borrowed my camp stove, Jeremy borrowed my tent, and I borrowed their water, beef jerky, and endless supply of conversation. We talked about life, God, and girls (our wives, of course).
We were able to do so because we could accept our circumstances. We understood that life doesn’t always work out the way you would like it to work. The Bible teaches that it is honorable and godly to be content- whatever your circumstance might be.
I challenge you to work on that today. Promise the Lord that you will seek to live an honorable and godly life regardless of the difficult situations that come your way.
