John 4:23-24
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.
What is worship really about? When I think of worship, my first thought is of singing. The word worship in the Christian language has come to mean music and singing. Yet I wonder, is that God’s true picture of worship?
Singing is an important part of worship, but it is not the whole deal. There is more to worship than just the words you sing. Worship includes our whole lives. Romans 12:1 says we worship by offering our lives as living sacrifices. The way we live our life everyday (in such a way that it would make others want what we’ve got) is another part of worship. Living out our lives in conformity to the will of God.
We shall worship in Spirit and in truth. We give God our spirit, and then we let His truth be worked out in our lives. We allow Jesus to become the center of everything we do. Jesus becomes the center of our life, and thus, our very actions and words are guided by His example.
This is the heart of worship. It’s not as much about the songs as it is about your life. God wants your life; not just your Sunday mornings.
