KarenS is an “Intense Mystic old-soul, passionate for life, experience and decadence. Sweetheart with unimpeachable integrity who is into the great outdoor and nature – and very athletic.” She is in search of “A truly nice guy. Someone who is considerate, kind, giving, romantic and genuinely gets me. A real man who has his own ideas, who is athletic and wants to go outside and DO things. Someone who wants to live – and to see the world and love passionately.”
Shina is “In search of a man who shares similar interests or at least plays scrabble!!!!” She is, “Lonely and looking to find for myself my soul mate, he seems to have lost his way finding me, but I’m sure he’s out there somewhere.”
Katty31 is “31 yrs old, and looking for the “one”. I’m looking for a man who is stable, honest, self-confident, fun to be around, and trustworthy. He needs to enjoy romance and passion and be ready for the potential of a relationship.”
Somehow, in our search for love and acceptance, we’ve lost our way. We all long to find a love that will fill us for a lifetime; for that one person that will come into our life, tell us we are the most wonderful person they have ever known; and love us. KarenS, Shina, and Katty31 seem to think that they will find true love on the internet. Perhaps their thought is that there are so many people on the internet, their chances of finding that one person that will make them complete will increase.
From local dating services, to personal ads, to online “match” agencies, it seems that everyone is looking for someone to love. Julie is just waiting for prince charming to come and sweep her off of her feet, while David is just waiting for that one girl to come and make his life complete. Waiting for someone to come and fill the void in their life so that they are free to live fully, so that they are free from the burden of being alone.
“Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrow, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by Him and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all… He poured out His life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For He bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53:4-6,12b
True love hung on a cross almost 2,000 yrs ago and bore the sins of the world. True love was blameless and yet chose to suffer a torturous death, and even more so, suffer rejection by the Father to conquer death for His creation. True love willingly withstood the mocking and jeering while His body was beaten and bruised by the very people He was trying to save… and yet we search. We search for love that will fill us. We look for the approval of man to tell us that we have value and worth. All the while, forgetting the sacrifice that was made and the power of death conquered.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” Romans 5:8-9
The soul of man is wretched and evil. Sin has so destroyed us that even the most moral and upright man is capable of murder and deceit. No man was born holy and no man can attain, within himself, the holiness required to be in the presence of God. But Jesus, “who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:6-8
True love is found in the humility, the suffering, and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. True love is saving a wretched sinner such as myself. True love that offers salvation to a sinner that He knows could deny him as Peter did, doubt him as Thomas did, or even betray him as Judas did. He knows my deeply evil potential, and yet, He loves me and He bids me to come and worship at His feet. He calls me to come and converse with Him, ask Him for direction and tell Him about my pain.
True love is the divine humility that resulted in Christ’s death on the cross for my sin. True love conquered death and rose again so that I may be free to live in communion with my Savior once again. True love is the life that is the light of man!
This article certainly puts love in perspective!! Its so easy to get lost in the world's definition of 'love' and the sad thing is that many of us never find our way out of the maze of confusion we find ourselves in looking for 'love'. For all out there who are 'searching' I learnt the hard way that out of the word of God there is no good thing.
Hey Anon,
What do you mean, "out of the word of God there is no good thing"? I'm confused…are you saying there's nothing good in the Bible?
The way I understood it is that outside of the Word of God there is no good thing.
Kristie,
What a beautifully expressed, humbling description of love. Thank you for this and praise God for the complete, overwhelming love he has for us.
You Go Girl!!!!!
Great article . . . it seems like so many people don't understand what love really is, or where to find it.
But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.
One of my favorite verses, there. Note the username. 😉
So what do you guys think of online dating services? Could someone use eharmony.com to meet people (hoping that a committed, serious relationship could develop with one) and yet still be trusting God and waiting on Him?
