Ephesians 3:6
The Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
While you were still a sinner, Jesus Christ loved you unconditionally. Born into this world filthy, sinful, and separated from God, your wicked habits only grew with each passing day. What did the Father of creation itself see in you? What did He hope to gain by stretching out His hands for you? King David writes, “In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry for help before Him came into His ears.” He goes on to say that, “He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me” (Psalm 18).
God has been in the business of rescuing those who do not deserve His forgiveness and mercy since the fall of man. He did not rescue King David from His sins because David deserved it, but rather, because He “delighted” in David.
You are God’s creation and He delights in you. Because of the death Jesus died on the cross, you now possess the opportunity to come to the throne of God with boldness and confidence. Once you have accepted Christ as your Savior, you become a “fellow member of the body” and “fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus.” This is the good news of Christ: we who do not deserve God’s mercy have found it and we who do not deserve God’s hand of grace have been brought near to Him through the work of His Son.
Do you live your life as a partaker of the promise in Christ Jesus? You have been forgiven of your sins and hold tightly to your promise of heaven, but what about the promises Jesus brought to us while still here on earth? David says to God, “For by Thee I can run upon a troop; and by my God I can leap over a wall. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock except our God?” What testimonies do you have to the goodness of God? It’s so easy to forget that Jesus didn’t die simply so you could go to heaven. He died so that you might have a relationship with the Father. Eternal life starts on the day of your salvation, not when you arrive in heaven.
