Matthew 6:25-27
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
Did you know it’s sinful to worry? It’s one of the things that Jesus specifically told us not to do, but it’s one of the areas in which we continually struggle. I never had a problem trusting Jesus with my soul, but it has often been difficult for me to understand that in addition to providing for me spiritually, God will also meet my physical needs.
Read a little further in Matthew 6. Jesus told us very plainly, “Don’t worry. I will take care of you.” What did He say we have to do to earn this care? Go out and get a high-paying job so you can get all the stuff we want? No. All He asks us to do is let Him come first in our lives. That is what it means to seek His kingdom. He says if we will put Him first, we won’t have to worry about the things we need because God will provide them for us.
Regardless of what your past or present circumstances are telling you, know you can trust God. Worrying is just another distraction Satan uses to keep you busy. If you’re busy worrying about what might happen tomorrow, you won’t be able to focus on what God is saying to you today. Listen to Him today and let Him take care of tomorrow. He’s already there and He has promised to take care of you.
