Isaiah 49:13
Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; burst into song, O mountains! For the Lord comforts His people and will have compassion on His afflicted ones.
Christians love to stand on the promises of God. His promises are the foundation of our hope in Christ. We know that He has died for our sins and will one day return to bring us homeward to the Father. Nevertheless, that hope is often crushed when we take our eyes off His promises, or more common still, when we choose to selectively ignore the promises that we don’t understand.
It’s easy to do this. Israel often complained because they didn’t understand the promises of God. “If God loves us so much If God has chosen us as His sanctified nation why then do we continue to sit in exile, thousands of miles from our homeland?” You can relate to Israel. I know you can. You feel as if the Lord has promised you so many things… and yet, here you sit alone. You are miles from “home” and you feel as if you’re a prisoner free to wander wherever you wish… but still a prisoner. Where are the promises of God? Has He forgotten you? Why must you continue to endure the pain?
Take joy my friend. The Lord has not forgotten His promises to you. Rather, you have not listened to all that He has promised. You see, affliction will come. Thieves will rob you, family will forsake you, and friends will fail you. These are biblical promises, but so is God’s sovereignty. Abide in Him and He will abide in you. “Cast all you’re anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” Rejoice with the mountains, “For the Lord comforts His people and will have compassion on His afflicted ones.”
