Jude 3
Beloved, while I was making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
What does living out true Christianity mean to you? What are the duties of a genuine believer? Does the Lord look to you as one of His faithful children? Is He able to call on you in a moment’s notice? Where do you live your Christianity out the most… at church, at home? Do you practice your Christianity at school or work?
To those of you who can confidently answer these questions in the affirmative, I must probe further. When was the last time that your faithful dedication to the Christian walk took you outside of the comfort of likeminded believers and dropped you smack-dab in the middle of the enemy’s camp? When was the last time you went on the offensive for your faith… or as Jude describes it, When was the last time you, “contended earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints?”
Don’t allow the naivety of this mindset to shape your Christian walk. There’s more to being a soldier of Christ than simply showing up for briefing once or twice a week. You must learn to go on the offensive, for “certain persons have [already] crept in unnoticed” (verse 4). It’s imperative that you transform your complacency into action!
You must start thinking like a soldier. You must start today! Jude sums up your duty in 7 verses (17-23).
- Remember the disciples and Jesus’ words.
- Build yourself up on your faith.
- Pray with the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Keep yourself in God’s love.
- Wait anxiously for Jesus’ return.
- Share the grace of Jesus with everyone He brings in your direction!
