Hebrews 1:10-12
You, Lord, in the beginning did lay the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of Thy hands;
They will perish, but Thou will remain.
And they all will become old as a garment, and as a mantle, you will roles them up; As a garment they will also be changed.
But you are the same and your years will not come to an end.
Life is progressive. We all have a history. We all have a future. Birth is very similar to being shot from a slingshot. You fly through life, with only a split second to grab the things that impress you the most.
You wait for birthdays, college, a good job, and your wedding day, but all this will pass. You will spend your entire life collecting things, building wealth, and making friends, but all this will pass. Job said it best: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord (Job 1:21).
Hebrews 1:10-12 is part of a poem to the Lord. The author praises his God as the only one whose existence spans from the beginning of time to the end. God Himself, says the poet, will role up creation as if it were but a piece of clothing.
Open your hands and look at them. What will you spend today trying to wrap them around? What do you hold onto the hardest? Our Lord offers Himself to you. Have you taken a hold of His hand? Or are you too afraid that you’ll miss something else by doing so?
