Luke 12:7
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
It doesn’t take many hours of watching reality TV to realize that most people don’t think very highly of themselves. Whether it is a show about changing what you wear or a show about cosmetic surgery, it seems like a lot of people are trying to change who they are. It is overwhelming to me that we worship a God who took the time to mold, shape, and create each and every one of us. Humans are the only creatures on the face of the earth that God took the time for which to do this.
The sparrow was one of the most beautiful creatures known to man during Biblical times. Beautiful to look at in its many bright colors, and graceful in its movement, Luke reminds men and women that even a sparrow cannot compare to the beauty found in each human. Too many of us compare ourselves to others, be it movie stars, athletes, or someone more “popular”. We get so caught up in this that we are go to great lengths to change our image.
The “image” we strive for should be that of Jesus Christ. When we think about our lives, the strengths and abilities God has blessed us with should be used to strive to live the kind of life that Jesus lived.
Our image is not a look, but a life-style; a way we live each and every day. Thank goodness we are each unique and special, right down to the hairs on our head, because it is in our uniqueness that we are, together, the body of Christ!
