Proverbs 3:13
How blessed is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding.
When was the last time you learned something from God? I mean you seriously learned something from the Lord. We should daily be growing in our Christian faith. There should not pass one day in our lives that we do not come to know the Lord more intimately. I believe this with all of my heart, and yet, it is one of the greatest shortcomings of my faith. 1 Timothy chapter 4 speaks of our need to continually be searching and studying the scriptures for wisdom, learning, and understanding. Verse 15 of Chapter 4 says, “Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress may be evident to all.” Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword…” The only way that we will be able to continually learn and mature in our understanding of the Lord is to daily spend time studying His word. It is alive; God’s word created heaven and earth, and God’s word, if we will just read it and practice it, will create within us, mature and Christ-like spirits. Spirits not of earthly or human conception, but of a supernatural birth… spirits that could change the face of the earth. God’s word creates life and it is time that we start making His word the key ingredient of each and every day that we live. If we would do this, we would never stop learning, and we would not go one day without leading someone closer to an understanding of God’s love for them! When was the last time you learned something from God?
At the beginning of this year, I was reading the Bible and I came across 1 Corinthians 10:31. In this verse the apostle Paul challenges his readers “in whatever we do, to do it to the glory of God.” Now I had heard this verse before, and I had accepted it, but I never really studied it before. This is exactly what I’m talking about. So often, we go through our lives self-absorbed and clueless of what the Lord might desire for us. Sure, we have claimed to be Christians and hey… some of us even read our Bible’s on a daily basis, but we fail to learn God’s instruction because we do not meditate long enough on His word. Instead of God’s word being a “double-edged sword that pierces to our innermost being,” we read over it so fast that it only has the time to do the job of a potato peeler, grazing us just enough to keep too much sinful flesh from accumulating on our complacent souls.
I do not pretend to know what the Lord desires to teach you, but I do know that He does. We are not called to be complacent in our walks with the Lord. We should always be moving forward and maturing in His grace and wisdom. I pray that you might open Your Bible today and ask the Lord to teach you truths you’ll never forget… truths that will change your complete outlook on life.
