You’ve Already Won

Matthew 8:32

And He said to them, “Begone!” And they came out, and went into the swine, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters.

You are not alone. They’ve been secretly watching, prodding, and studying you since the moment you were born. You pass them every day. The question isn’t, “Have they ever overlooked your presence,” but rather, “Are you even aware of theirs?” If Jesus is your example, it would do you well to learn from His encounters with demonic forces. In Matthew 8:28-34, we learn of Christ’s uncontested power over such evil spirits. Although they threatened all others who passed them by, the very presence of Jesus brought them to their knees, pleading for their existence. I wonder, do you think demonic forces are that fearful of you? They should be.

Jesus had one word for these demons: “Begone!” He practiced an unapologetic “no negotiation” policy with all demonic forces. There was no need to establish His supremacy, to announce His arrival, or to evaluate their assets. With one word, He confirmed His absolute power over a multitude of Satan’s best. Do you not realize that as a Christian, you carry this same authority within you? If you are a child of God, His Spirit has fashioned your soul into His abide.

I pray that you would walk as one empowered by the presence of Jesus Christ. I challenge you to visualize the unseen forces at work around you today. They’re in the hallways at school. They’re in your bedroom, your car, and at the dinner table. You must recognize their deceitful whispers and their skilful condemnations. You must remember that they are a defeated army and you reside under the victors’ shield. Deceit is all they can hope for today. Christ’s supremacy is the only weapon you need.
