Job 19:25
And as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth.
He has redeemed me from my slavery to sin; furthermore, I can confidently say, that one day He will redeem me from the trials and tribulations of this present life. Job was a man facing enormous pain and suffering. He had no earthly hope left within him. At times, it appeared that his hope in the Lord was all but gone. It wasn’t, though, and he always came back to the same conclusion: “I know that my Redeemer lives.”
Life won’t always be “fair.” My wife and I have struggled with this on several occasions. We ask, “Why does it seem that the unrighteous continually prosper and we are never freed from our troubles? Why do the godly suffer the greatest?”
Our understanding of certain situations has more than once come to a standstill. We will never be able to conceive of why the Lord allows His saints to suffer certain battles. We must, however, always rest our eyes on the same promise that Job placed his hope in. “And as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth!”
Can you say that you know for sure your Redeemer lives? Are you confident of your hope in the Lord? For “by my God I can leap over a wall” (Ps 18:29), “All things are possible” (Mat. 19:26), and it is with His strength that I can, “Consider it pure joy when I face many trials and temptation” (Jas 1:2). Possibly the greatest comfort of all is still found in my hope for His return. Titus 2:9-11 reminds me that His salvation has already come in the form of redemption from sin. One day, however, He will return again and redeem me from every earthly struggle. How encouraging is that!
Life is rough, but I urge you to put your hope and your strength in the Lord. Remember, it is for Him that you live and to Him that you will one day return. As bad as it can get, your current struggles are “but a vapor, that appears for a little while and then vanishes away” (James 4:14). Do you really believe your Redeemer lives? Than start living like it!
