Daniel 10:12
Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard and I have come in response to them.”
Can you imagine the comfort you would feel if an angel sent from the Lord said to you, “Your words were heard and I have come in response to them”? Daniel heard these words after three weeks of persistent prayer. The Lord sent His angel to personally inform Daniel that He, God Himself, had been listening all along. What comfort!
The Lord provides the reason He responded to Daniel in Daniel 10:12, “Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before God your words were heard.” The comfort that the Lord provided Daniel was directly related to Daniel’s attitude. Two things were true of Daniel; he set his mind to gain understanding and humbled himself. By setting his mind to gain understanding Daniel submitted himself to God. He wanted to see things God’s way and abandoned his own desires.
The Lord brings comfort to us when we abandon our own way and our own desires. Even if the response of God is delayed three weeks or even three years, the key to His comfort is our willingness to abandon what we want and willingly receive what He wants.
A few years ago my wife had cancer. We prayed that she would be cancer free and had to wait three weeks for a definitive answer as to whether the cancer was gone or had spread. During those weeks, we experienced the comfort of God even before we received the good news that she was cancer free.
