The Personal Testimony of June Faulkner
John 8:44b
“He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
I told you that Satan will get you because you’re ignorant. Before you go to the nearest person to tell them someone called you stupid (if you haven’t already), let’s define the word “ignorant”. According to The Random House College Dictionary “ignorant” is defined as “lacking knowledge about a particular subject or fact”. It doesn’t mean you are dumb, only that you have a lot to learn. In this case, you have a lot to learn about Satan. That’s how he got me, through ignorance. No one ever told me that new Christians are weak and defenseless and that Satan will attack at the first opportunity. I had no idea what I was up against, but I want to make sure that you know.
You are a target. If you are a new Christian, or a Christian who is sitting on the fence and can not decide whether to serve God or serve the world, then you are Satan’s target. You might as well draw a big, red bull’s eye on your forehead or tape a “kick me” sign on your back side. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians that Satan disguises himself, and Jesus said in the book of John that Satan lies. Notice that He didn not say “if” the devil lies, Jesus said “when” he lies. Understand that lying is what Satan does; it is who he is. It is therefore up to you whether or not you listen and believe him.
All he had to do in my case was whisper in my ear and I started listening. I did not know it was Satan talking to me, but for years I knew his voice better than the Lord’s. He showed me everything the world had to offer and made me believe it was harmless. The world I grew up in back in the 1980’s said it was OK to have sex outside of marriage and to get high, that having a few drinks never hurt anybody. The devil made it all look so benign and innocent that I bought it. I fell for his lies.
You may already know that Satan is whispering to you and that you are listening to him, but remember, he’s not telling you the truth. Ladies, he won’t tell you that sex is a poor substitute for love and that God has someone wonderful waiting for you when the time is right. Guys, he won’t tell you that following the crowd does not make you cool, but instead makes you stupid.
I listened to his lies. Now it is your choice whether or not you want to listen to them too; or do you not know that Satan is fighting to keep you from living the life God has planned for you?
