Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even until the end.
You’ll never see it again. Last week is over and you have no assurance that tomorrow will turn out like you have planned. This is a reality of being human. It is one that we all face. We must all walk through life one day at a time. It is not our privilege to recreate the events of yesterday (Hebrews 9:27) or our responsibility to determine the proceedings of tomorrow (James 4:13-14). We are merely humans, living in a universe created by One much greater than us. Everything that takes place today has passed through the Creator’s hands. It has been deemed from long ago that it would arrive today.
You must take two truths away from this passage. One, God will make all things beautiful in its own time. He is in total control of your life. He is the Lord of every person, blessing, and difficulty that will pass before you today. It is your duty to honor Him in all of life’s situations. Do not long for yesterday, God desires that you live for Him today. Do not dwell in the future. In doing so, you will miss the opportunity to honor Him in the present. Two, God has placed eternity in your heart. Do not waste today by covering up what you did yesterday. Do not be swept away by what you have planned for tomorrow. Rather, do everything as if it were your last day on earth. Heaven is your goal. It’s your final destination. Never stop longing for Christ’s return. This passage reminds me of one of the great hymns of our faith. I pray that these words remain close to your heart.
