Hope For The Starving

November 2nd, 2008

John 6:35

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Jesus Christ is the bread of life. Without Him, no one will ever experience true fulfillment or belonging. To all who believe, it is promised that they will never hunger or thirst again. Just as God provided bread for His people in the wilderness, He also provided Christ for His children in their sinfulness. Without Christ, there is no hope for those who are starving. He is the bread of life.

Furthermore, the life He offers is eternal. Once you have come to Him, once you have offered Him your filth in exchange for His death on the cross, His presence is forever with you. “If anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever…” (John 6:51).

Once you have received the bread of life, there is no need to look elsewhere for fulfillment. His word is your portion and you will delight in His commandments (Psalm 119:57-64). There is love, joy, and peace in His presence. Patience, kindness, and goodness become natural outpourings of your life. Because you and He are one, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control will become synonymous with your name. To the one who reaches out and accepts the Bread of Life, there is therefore now no condemnation in your sins (Romans 8:1).

O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him
(Psalm 34:8).
