Joshua 5:15
And the captain of the Lord’s host said to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
What was the last thing God sent an angel to tell you? As far as I am aware of, I have never had an angel visit me. Something tells me that I would probably pay close attention if one showed up though. If God did send an angel to give you a message from Him, what do you think that message would be about?
“Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” And he said, “No, rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the Lord.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, “What has my lord to say to his servant?” And the captain of the Lord’s host said to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
One of the most convicting things that my pastor says to us on a regular basis is, “God will not share His glory with another.” Here was Joshua; he had just led the Israelites across the Jordon and out of the desert. They had recently recommitted their lives to the Lord and were on their way to the Promised Land. Things were looking pretty good for them. I imagine it would have been easy for Joshua and his army to forget that they didn’t do this on their own. Sometimes it is necessary for us to be reminded just how great our Lord’s glory really is. In Joshua’s case, God sent an angel to deliver the message. The Lord would not have Joshua seeking his own glory during the following military campaigns.
So… no angels in your neck of the woods? How, then, has the Lord chosen to reveal His glory to you today? Are you still missing it? Are you still seeking to glorify yourself over your creator? Ask the Lord to show you the greatness of His glory today. Go out and look for it. Whatever you do, make sure that your not out to steal it today.
