Psalm 19:1
The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
The glory of the Lord is overwhelming you. Have you noticed it? It is everywhere you turn. David reminds us that even the “heavens” are telling of the glory of God. Unless you live in the Midwest or along the coast somewhere, it has probably been a long time since you saw the true horizon, not raised by trees, hills, or high rises. Even with the pine trees here in North Carolina, it doesn’t take a genius to realize how large the sky is. It’s easy to get lost in it if you just stare long enough. It’s huge!
I can picture King David on the top of his roof somewhere in Israel thousands of years ago. Or maybe he was out in a field, remembering the days he spent shepherding sheep as a teenager. Just looking to the sky he was overcome with the glory of his God. This type of thing doesn’t happen to everyone. You have to be in a certain mindset. You have to be aware of the fact that God indeed does deserve glory.
You and I walk beneath the sun every day. We go out with our friends under the cover of the night sky. The entire galaxy is displayed overhead, but seldom do we stop and express our awe to its creator… to our creator.
I pray that you would look for the glory of the Lord today. Take two extra seconds to inhale a large breath of fresh air when you step outside today. Slow down to look at the birds gliding over the lake. Stop, if you have to, and just stare at the heavens for a while. They’re amazing!
