Proverbs 23:17
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord.
When in high school I loved tennis. At the time (and this will show my age) there was a great tennis player named Bjorn Borg. C I wanted to be like him so bad that I even tried to hit the tennis ball with a two-handed backhand, just like he did. One summer when I was taking lessons, the instructor, after watching my backhand, encouraged me to hit one handed. I balked because I wanted to be like Borg.
It is easy to imitate those around us. There will always be peers and heroes around us who we think we need to be like in order to be something special. But those of us who call Jesus Christ the Lord of our life need to look to His example as to how we are to live. The entire Bible is filled with examples that the Christian needs to model.
In Matthew 22:36-40, Jesus tells us how we are to live. We are to first love God, and we are to show that love by loving those around us. These are simple words that can be tough to live out. So how do we do it? Practice, practice, practice. Begin by focusing on stories of the way Jesus lived as shown in the Gospels and pray about ways you can do the same in your life. See how Jesus lived and then apply it to your life.
