Jeremiah 32:17
Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You.
I can hear it shuffling around in there again. It’s been awhile this time, and I had almost forgotten about IT, yet once again; as is the custom, IT reminds me of its presence just as I begin to feel comfortable. It’s quite annoying really. Maybe I might hear something break, or perhaps something falls down and grabs my attention.
If I thought about it enough I probably could chorale it into a closet lock the door and toss out the key. But, out of my own laziness I simply run it off with a stick, and, even if I do take the time to run the thing into a closet, I rarely ever attempt to lock the door. It really would be a smart idea, because frankly, it smells…bad. I can be having the greatest day of my life and suddenly something breaks, snaps, falls, shuffles, whatever, and I can smell it, there IT is again with that big, stupid, ugly grin. You can call IT whatever you like, but when IT comes it does so in all different forms: fear, discouragement, worry, depression and all of which smells and feels repulsive.
All too often we Christians find ourselves (myself very much included) in a place where the ugly beast described above is robbing us of the joy of living as a Child of God. We easily become disillusioned by the idea that these feelings of fear, discouragement, worry, depression, etc… are more powerful than the words the Prophet Jeremiah declares. We are all so easily susceptible to things and events that happen to us, and how they make us feel. Jeremiah describes our Lord with two characteristics in this verse; 1 He is responsible for the creation of all the earth (“You have made the heavens and the earth”) and 2 no situation, circumstance, or environment is out of His reach (“Nothing is too difficult for You”).
We serve a God who is all-powerful and full of Grace. Christian, do not be discouraged. Your Heavenly Father knows you and your circumstances right at this very moment, and He is more than capable of bringing you through it. Stand in the Grace that God has given you freely. He Loves You more than you can know or understand. Kick that thing that is tearing at you into the closet, lock the door, and give God the key to throw it away.
