Confused… But Obedient!

August 2nd, 2008

Matthew 8:4

And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and present the offering that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.”

There’s a reason God is speaking to you this way. You may not understand why He has asked you to do what He has, but you must trust that every command of God is spoken with purpose.

After healing the leper, Jesus commanded him to do four things: tell no one, go, show, and offer. They sound simple, but to someone who has just been given a new lease on life, not one of the commands would be easy. The leper’s desire was to share with the world his newfound bill of health. Christ’s desire was to see His Father receive all the glory. The commands to tell no one, to go, to show, and to present an offering were given so that the leper’s healing would be counted “for a testimony to them.”

Have you been blessed by the Lord lately? Has Christ been speaking to you differently than you’re used to Him speaking? Are you missing out on an opportunity to bring glory to the Father because you don’t see the logic or the importance of what Jesus is so obviously commanding you to do? If so, I challenge you to obey this difficult command you’ve been avoiding for so long. Remember that Christ is not only your Lord and Master, but He is your example as well.

“And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross”
(Philippians 2:8).

What a great reminder that God is constantly seeking to stir us up in our relationship with Him. Everything is a test, Even our triumphs are tests.

To obey is better than sacrifice. A sacrifice, no matter how well intentioned, still contains something of ourselves. Obedience is interested only in what our Master commands.
