Isaiah 43:18-19a
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
Forgetting the past doesn’t mean forgetting what happened, but denying it the right to control your life and dictate your future.
People who never get over their past are like an eagle that never leaves its cage. Or like an airplane that never leaves the ground. They were both created to fly. They were not created to stay grounded all their life. But that’s what the past does to you. It keeps you grounded; God wants you to fly!
I once heard a preacher say, “Forgiveness doesn’t make them right; it makes you free!” I say this to you today. Forgiving the past doesn’t make the other person right, it sets you free from what happened. When you don’t forgive, you are allowing what happened in the past to control what happens in your future.
God doesn’t want you to remain grounded in your past for the rest of your life. Until you forgive that person in your past, you will never be able to move on. You are an eagle that has been sitting in a cage for too long. The door is open to you; all you have to do is fly through it. Do you want to be free?
