2 John 6
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love.
We are called to WALK out God’s commands. When I was living at home with my mother, she would often ask me to wash the dishes. I hated washing the dishes. So I would say, Yes, I’ll do it in a minute’. 20 minutes later, I’m still sitting in front of the TV. She comes out again and asks me, and I say I’ll do it soon. But it takes me a few hours before I actually do what she asks, and by that time she is thoroughly frustrated. If you have kids, you know what I’m talking about. You ask them to do something, and they say they will, but never actually get it done.
Doesn’t this frustrate you? Before, I wasn’t really aware I was doing this; but now I understand why my mother got so frustrated. If parents get frustrated, can you imagine how God feels? We say, I will be obedient to you; I’ll do what you ask. But what happens to the part where we get out and do it? What do you think God gave us feet for? God wants us to walk out His commands, not just talk them out.
