Psalm 63:1
O God, You are my God; I shall seek you earnestly; my soul thirsts for you, my flesh yearns for you in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Everyone has needs. You can only go so long before you need air, water, or food. Your body needs sleep, but you have so much to do. The responsibilities are great, the challenges are enormous, and the time is short. If only you had more time, more sleep, or more energy.
Wrong. Therein lies your problem. In a dry and weary land where there was no water, David’s soul thirsted most for God. His mouth was parched; his feet were tired; yet his body ached for God.
The Lord is the only one powerful enough, sovereign enough, and loving enough to meet your needs. No amount of sleep, time, or water will deliver you out of such dry lands. Only the hand of God is strong enough to deliver.
Have you turned to the Lord today like you turned to your bed last night? Do you anticipate reading His word like you do a warm dinner after a missed lunch? Does the idea of an all-powerful God listening to your prayers sooth your soul like a cup of water quenches your throat on a hot day? I pray that it does.
