Romans 8:26
In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
My mother recently returned to me some drawings I made for her when I was in kindergarten. Although she valued them very much, it didn’t take long for me to realize just how far I have come in my artistic abilities. The same fingers that created those meaningless scribbles entitled “My Family,” are now able to sketch beautiful 2D stick figures in a matter of hours. Okay, so my drawings have never been that great, but this example does paint a wonderful picture, if you’ll excuse the pun.
Just as my mother took great pride in what seemed like meaningless scribbles, our Lord delights in the prayers of His saints. Many Christians have a fear of prayer. They believe that their lack of experience somehow comes across as unprofessional or silly to God. This misconception could be no further from the truth. Revelation 5:8 teaches us that our prayers are an incense unto the Lord. Romans 8:26 reminds us that the Holy Spirit is constantly at work as a mediator between the Father and us. He takes our “scribbled” prayers and offers them to God in “groanings too deep for words.”
I pray that you would never allow your “inexperience” or feelings of inferiority to stop you from praying to the Lord. Remember that He takes much joy in hearing from you and the Holy Spirit is continually interceding on your behalf.
Very sweet and cute! And so true indeed!
