John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
How easy it is to forget that Christ was sent to earth for the purpose of dying. God did not send Christ to the earth with false expectations or with a “Plan B” in mind. Philippians 2:6-8 says, “Although [Jesus] existed in the form of God, [He] did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Christ came to earth with the intention of dying on a cross for our sins. This was the only possible option for the salvation of humanity.
I have recently been convicted over the fact that I seriously downplay this truth. I have realized that my conversations concerning Christ do not focus on what He has already done for me, but rather what He can or could do for me. I talk of Jesus as if He is a genie; if I make a wish, use the right words and get enough people to wish it with me, it will come true. I fail to respect Christ for awesome sacrifice He became on account of my sin.
This mindset is a dangerous one to have. The further away I allow my mind to get from the death and resurrection of Christ, the less I will find myself telling others about His love. To dwell on what Christ can do for me, rather than what He has done for me, will create a spirit of selfishness, leading to prayers of want and personal blessing rather than the salvation of those around me.
When was the last time you told someone of Christ’s love for them? God so loved the world that He GAVE His only begotten Son… Isn’t it time you offered Him to someone else?
