Isaiah 55:3
Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, according to the faithful mercies shown to David.
I had a blind dog while I was growing up. He was a little Pomeranian about the size of an over inflated football. He wasn’t always without sight, but that’s another story and we probably shouldn’t get into it. I’m sure you can imagine how this changed simple routines such as “going out” into difficult tasks for the little hairball. In fact, the only thing that allowed him this privilege at all was his trust in the sound of my mother’s voice. He knew that as long as he could hear where she was, it would be possible for him to find his way back into the house. Problems arose only if he failed to listen to my mother’s voice, or when an obstruction came between them… like a chain link fence.
Who do you turn to when life throws you a screwball or the living room furniture gets rearranged without you knowing it? In Isaiah 55, the Lord tells us to incline our ear to Him. It is very important that we do not take this verse for granted. Our lives need to be dependant solely on the Word of God. He alone should be the one who guides us through difficult situations. The problem my dog had in following my mom’s voice was not in his lack of hearing it, but in being distracted by the many other sounds and scents around him.
You live in a hectic environment. There are situations that arise daily in which you must learn to tune out every sound but the voice of our Lord. I challenge you to “incline your ear” and to “come to Him” today. In doing so, you will find just how much easier it can be to navigate through life.
