King of Dance? :: Deeper Devotion

King of Dance?

2 Samuel 6:14

“Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.”

The occasion was eventful, but not for typical reasons. King David and His servants were in the presence of God, in the presence of the Ark of the Covenant. A few days earlier David was fearful to move it, but when he saw the blessing that came to the one who was in its presence He moved it to Jerusalem. Then something happened. David and his men stopped and David worshiped. But this was not just any moment of worship.

The most obvious thing that made this scene of worship so beautiful was the fact that is was unbridled. Two things show us this from the text. First David danced with all of his might before the Lord. Such a statement means that David’s worship before the Lord came from a place deep within his soul. With every fiber of his being he loved the Lord his God with all of his heart, soul, and mind. In the moment, though he was surrounded by thousands of his men, no one was with him other than the God of Heaven.

But the second thing is something that I find even more interesting. David was wearing a linen ephod. So what you say? Think about it. Who was dancing in the presence of God? King David, right? Wrong! King David was not even present. Dancing before the Lord was David, the servant of God, who had taken off his Kingly robes of royalty and put on a pure linen garment designed for those who served before the Lord. Such an act was nothing short of pure humility and love for God.

When was the last time that you checked your worldly identity at the door and worshiped the Lord God with all of your heart, soul and mind? When was the last time you worshiped God so hard, with every fiber of your being that though there be thousands around you there was no one with you except the God of Heaven? If the answers escape you and you can not recall the last time you lost yourself in the pleasure of pure unbridled worship then let me encourage you to enter into His presence and do it today, and dance with all your might.

“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers (John 4:23).”
