Psalm 44:23
Arouse Yourself, why do You sleep, O Lord?Awake, do not reject us forever.
I have a friend who is the pastor of a small church that is going through some pretty tough times. He and I talk occasionally at a pretty candid level, and I am convinced that there are times when this giant of man whose faith has seen mountains moved, sometimes looks up to heaven and asks GOD, Where in the world are you?
There is not a pastor, teacher, evangelist, Bishop, Elder, Sunday school teacher, music minister, not one person who serves in the ministry who has not at one time or another stepped into their role and wondered half-heartedly if today was the day when GOD was finally going to show up and perform a miracle. Men and women of GOD who truly love those they minister to long to see the day when revival will break out in the midst of hopelessness. With one eye on the Word of GOD and the other scanning the spiritual horizon they anticipate the day reality will hit that one person for whom the church has been praying for so many years. Will the church really see Jesus, today? And yet, so often, it seems that with each passing day, with each altar call that comes and goes, GOD just isn’t listening.
Two truths await the one who feels as if GOD isn’t listening. The first truth is this; If it can happens to giantso of the Faith, it can happen to anyone, including you and me. In every biography I have ever read, from Martin Luther to Billy Graham, there was a time in the person’s life when it seemed as if GOD had taken one too many sleeping pills. But this takes us to our second truth; GOD is listening, and He does hear you.
Though He is sovereign, GOD does not reject His children. We belong to Him in Christ. Jesus Himself said, I and my Father are one. Thus, in Him we live and move and have our very being. GOD can not deny himself. He is our very life, and has not nor will He ever leave you, nor forsake you.
Answers to our prayers may not come when we want them to, but GOD has a patented 11th hour save that never fails. The mature Christian will not fear in the quiet times when GOD is silent, but realize that often in the eyes of GOD it is only 10:45.
