John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The spiritual journey traveled by all who have asked Jesus to be their Lord and Savior is not a journey of perfection. It might be more appropriate to say that we who believe in the blood of Christ are on a journey to perfection, but by all means have not arrived. We are sinners, covered by the blood of Jesus, but sinners nonetheless. We must never forget from where we have come, while at the same time never forgetting where it is that we are going. In the mean time we will continue to sin, and remain in need of daily confession of those sins. Thankfully, our Savior is forever faithful to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The very act of daily confession is an acknowledgement of these facts. To confess one’s sins is in essence to agree that that though we are covered by the blood of Jesus, we still possess the ability to transgress against the Father. But, it is also an acknowledgement of the fact that we are seeking to walk in the light, because we are children of the light. Furthermore, GOD’s willingness to forgive us, and clean us up in the midst of our sin is evidence that our salvation is present tense. We are saved right now. This is our relationship with the GOD of heaven while on our spiritual journey to perfection. We live, we fail. We confess, and repent. GOD forgives, He cleanses. We are restored once again, and the journey goes on until the day of redemption.
Christians can by no means lose their salvation, for if we did then the journey to perfection that ends with the day of redemption with Jesus coming to take the Church home (Revelation 19) would be a moot point. Indeed, we are on a journey not of our own whimsical desire, but by the will of the Father. We are on a journey with Christ. Our destination is Eternal Glory, and on our way we will mess up. Thankfully, we are saved from the sins of our past, are being saved from our sins in the present, and when we reach the end of our journey will be saved to sin no more! Enjoy your journey.
