Willing And Not Afraid :: Deeper Devotion

Willing And Not Afraid

By Shane Pike, August 26, 2007

Matthew 28: 16-20
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

It’s hard for me to believe that a year ago I was working in West Palm Beach Florida for M-Fuge. M-Fuge is a missions oriented summer camp that sends its campers out into the community to serve, build, teach and to feed. It was the most amazing summer of my life and I almost missed it.

The morning of my interview I was determined not to go. I got out of bed and got ready for work thinking all the time that I just couldn’t go to that interview. I had bills to pay and too many responsibilities at home. There was no way I could just leave all of that and run off to work for M-Fuge. As I got in my car to head to work I put the key in the ignition and as the car started the radio came to life. Have you ever been grabbed by God? I mean really shook hard? The song that on the radio was “Hands and Feet” by Audio Adrenaline.

Why can’t I do the things I want to, I am willing but I’m so afraid, you give me strength when I say, I want to be your hands, I want to be your feet, I’ll go where you send me, go where you send me, I’ll be your hands, Ill be your feet, Ill go where you send, go where you send me, I’ll try , yeah I’ll try to touch the world like You’ve touched my life and I’ll find my way to be Your hands.

I couldn’t deny that God was speaking to me and telling me what He wanted me to do. To make a long story short I went to the interview and got the job. God wanted me to go I just wasn’t listening to Him as close as I thought I was. I call myself a Christian yet I’m not always willing to follow what that truly means. Jesus told the disciples as well as us to “Go”. We are meant for so much more than what this world has or what we imagine.

The creator of the universe gives us forgiveness of our sins and eternal life, what are we giving Him in return? Jesus tells us to go.

Pray today that you are open to what God has to say to you and that you are “willing and not afraid” to answer the call.

Hey I was wondering if you remember the last name of the youth pastor that was at MFuge that summer. I know his first name was jeremey, but do you know his last name? I am trying to get him to talk to our youth group now, if he is still speaking…
