Matthew 5:13
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.”

If you know Jesus as your Savior then you have been bought with a price, and saved for a purpose. The price that was paid for you was the life of a man who did nothing to deserve the punishment that He recieved. Be that as it may, His death has now made it possible for you to know your purpose in life. That purpose is for you to be salt and season the world around you. Keep in mind that I did not say that you must season the whole world, but you are responsible for seasoning the world around you – your school, your job, your friends, your family.

There does come a time, however, when salt can sit out unused for so long that it loses its ability to flavor anything. Jesus put it this way in Mark 4:24-25:

“Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. For whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.”

Jesus is by no means saying that if a Christian doesn’t use his or her saltiness to flavor the world around them that they will lose their salvation, for GOD would never do that! He would, however, and often does take those who refuse to flavor their world and allows them to live in their mule-headed stubbornness. There is no more hollow feeling than to sit on the sidelines and watch the team win, knowing that you can claim none of the glory that comes with the spoils of victory.

Do not let the world go by without adding a little flavoring to it. Share your faith. Be ready at all times to give an account for the hope that is in you. Always be mindful that the measure that you use it is the measure that it comes back to you, and if you don’t use it, you lose it.

“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure–pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return (Luke 6:38).”
