Deuteronomy 33:26
“There is none like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the heavens to your help, And through the skies in His majesty.”
The thirty-third chapter of Deuteronomy is a somewhat sad, nostalgic, and yet optimistically hopeful section of the Bible. It is sad because Moses is about to be taken away to heaven, and Israel is about to be left without her beloved leader who led them out of Egyptian captivity all the way to the Promised Land. Old and ready to die, Moses is now blessing the twelve tribes of Israel before passing the reins over to Joshua. In his blessing here in verse twenty-six he reminds the tribe of Asher that there is none like the GOD of their forefathers. Look closely with me at what the old man reminds them. GOD rides the heavens to help you. He crosses through the skies to come to you. The interesting thing is that Jesus told us the exact same thing in Luke 15:20 where He tells us the story of the prodigal son.
“So (the son) got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”
What so few people realize is that no decent self-respecting, wealthy, Middle Eastern man would hitch up his garment and run like that. In his dignity he would walk. But the story of the prodigal son is a story about a Father who looks for His children in their time of need, and when He sees His children He runs to them and embraces and kisses them. This is your GOD who rides the heavens to your help, and through the skies in His majesty. This is your GOD who loves you with all of His heart!
