Joshua 23:14
“I will soon die, as everyone must. But deep in your hearts you know that the Lord has kept every promise He ever made to you. Not one of them has been broken.”
Time and time again, the Bible speaks of God’s faithfulness. It is a theme that continually runs throughout the Bible. In this particular instance, Joshua is giving a farewell speech to the Israelites because he is about to die. The Israelites had been through a lot of extraordinary experiences and throughout all of it, God’s faithfulness to them had never ceased. He had kept every promise he had made to them dating all the way back to his covenant with Abraham. They were the fulfillment of those promises. Because of God’s past faithfulness, they could be sure of the future and continue to follow the Lord.
The same holds true for us today. God’s promises never yet failed us. Everything he has promised has come true. Therefore, we can also have assurance of the future, and continue to follow the Lord.
Joshua encouraged the Israelites to remember all the promises God had kept to them. Today, we should take that same advice and take a moment to reflect on how God has been faithful to us.
