Mark 4:38
And He Himself was in the stern asleep on the cushion; and they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Until you understand the importance of Jesus’ deity, true peace will not be something you ever experience.
The disciples had to learn this early in their ministry with Him. Their lesson arrived as a huge storm violently tossing their tiny boat. Because they had not yet understood the deity of Jesus, panic and fear were their only options. Jesus, their “teacher,” must have proved to be quite the enigma to them as He peacefully slept in the bottom of the boat. Eventually they couldn’t take it any longer and woke Him up. They frantically asked Him, “Do You not care that we are perishing?” They asked Him, not because they wanted His help, but because they were dumbfounded by His seemingly apathetic response. “How can you be sleeping during this!” I can picture the looks on their faces when the storm immediately stopped after Christ commanded it to “Hush and be still.” They were no longer in the presence of a mighty teacher, but with someone who could control the wind and the rain! In a matter of seconds… everything changed. Their lives would never be the same.
When Jesus is no more than a teacher or a godly man, life can be hectic and you will likely become frustrated with others who ask, “How is it that you have no faith?” (Verse 40) All of this will change the first time you experience the power Jesus Christ working in your hectic life. Only one question now remains:
