How Firm Do You Stand?

Job 31:1
I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl.

We live in a culture that uses sex to sell everything from cologne, cars, clothes, music and even food. After all, sex sells. And it does. The disturbing thing about sex being used to sell all these products is the fact it is actually slipping into Christian areas where it would not have been a few years ago.

Pornography is a multi billion-dollar industry. And thousands of Christian young men are held in its snare. Easy access to images on the internet have men enslaved to their computers each night. Marriages have been destroyed and lives have been ruined because a “harmless view” of some nude pictures get out of control.

Do not be deceived. Sexually explicit materials are not harmless. They are tools of the evil one, meant to destroy your life and to make you addicted to those ideals. Sex and sexuality are beautiful when understood in their proper relationships. God intended for man and woman to enjoy sex and use it to give Him glory.

Accusations against Job suggested that infidelity was the reason for his suffering and lost. His response was clear and confident…”I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl.” Whatever the reason I am struggling, it is not because I have sinned in that way.

How firm can we stand against accusations of sexual sin, of lust, of viewing sexually explicit material when no one is around, of pre-marital sex, of masturbation, lack of self-control, and answer with all confidence in the Spirit ” I have made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl?”

The sad truth is that most Christian teens will tell you it is hard to be pure, hard to remain faithful before marriage. Why? They constantly put themselves in situations where temptation is sure to happen. Willfully placing ourselves in situations where we know temptation will come is not temptation, but desire. We have sex before marriage, not because we can’t say no, but because we want to have sex. No pressure, no excuse, just truth. It happens because we want it to happen.

Have you made a covenant with your eyes not to look lustfully at another person? Better yet, have you made a covenant with Jesus not to do these things? A covenant is much more than an agreement. It is a commitment… a firm commitment. Jesus will always keep His part. He signed it blood.
