Psalm 73:28
But as for me, the nearness of my God is good.
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works.
Not far from where I live in Oklahoma is the Wichita Wildlife Refuge. There buffalo, at one time almost extinct, live in peace and without the fear of being killed. They live in their natural habitat, free to roam about and to exist as God created them to exist.
You and I were created to live and to love both for God and with God. But the world in which we live can be hostile to those of us who proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord. For most of us in the United States, it is not the fear of being jailed for our beliefs, but the persecution can still be no less painful. It may be excluded from a group of friends or it may come through people making fun of us for our faith. Even today, it is hard when I know people treat me differently because of my faith.
We can find our refuge from the world in the arms of God. The closer we are to God, the better off we are. The closer we are to God, the easier it is to live as He desires us to live. It is natural for us to get caught up in the temptations and the struggles of living in the world around us. When we find ourselves doing this, we must seek refuge in God.
Getting to that place of refuge in God through Jesus Christ comes through a life of prayer, worship, Bible study, and service. The more we do these things, and incorporate them into our everyday life, the easier it is to find refuge in God.
