Then Name Of Our Lord :: Deeper Devotion

Psalm 23:3

He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Is your soul in need of restoration? Jesus Christ is the only one that can truly heal, restore, or revive the state of your soul. Many times I have found this statement to hold true within my own life. There is nothing more undesirable than to live day to day in fear, hopelessness, or misery. Like a snowball rolling down a mountainside, sorrows grow greater with each passing day. The longer your spirit is in this state of being, the less likely it appears you will ever overcome it. As hard as you try, nothing will remove this numbness of life… not money, not love, not success. Not even your own resolve will pump life back into the veins of a distraught soul. Nothing that is, but the presence of God. You will never overcome this vicious cycle until you call on the name of the Lord. Jesus asks us to “cast all our cares upon Him, because He cares for us.” He proclaims, “we have not because we ask not.” When will you stop running from the Lord in search of a better life? When will you fall at His feet and experience the abundant life He has promised you?

You see, the Lord will indeed restore your soul. He will guide you down the paths of righteousness. All of this He will do for His name’s sake. The ugly truth of the matter is that you do not deserve to have your soul restored in the first place. No one does. The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death…” Because you have sinned, consequences must be paid. Because you have sinned, you do not deserve to even see the paths of righteousness. But because of His name’s sake, because of the amazing grace of our God, He has served the consequences of our sin. The wages of sin may be death, but “the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus, our Lord.”

I thank my God that He has restored my soul and led me down the paths of righteousness. I praise His name for continuing to revive my soul and to keep me from the paths of unrighteousness. This unrighteous path, after all, is what gives way to the destruction of the spirit in the first place. It is only by continually following the “shepherd” that we will continually experience this revision of the soul.
