Proverbs 19:21
Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the counsel of the Lord will stand.
If there were ever a verse to describe me, this is it. I’m one of those people whose mind runs a mile a minute and its all I can do to try to get a couple of my ideas down on paper before I forget them. I’m always planning; planning things to do on my house, planning gifts for birthdays and Christmas, planning my next vacation… it’s an endless list running through my head.
I guess my parents could attest to the fact that I’ve been this way from the very beginning. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a missionary ballerina who was a veterinarian on the side and a trapeze artist on the weekends. I’ve outgrown those desires but I’m still the same little girl just trying to do everything she can on this earth; trying to pack as much as I possibly can into a day.
Fortunately, God has different plans for this mind that doesn’t need caffeine to get going. He so often has to remind me that my plans are not His plans. While He does this, He softly instills in me the idea that only His counsel will stand in my life. It is His counsel alone that has brought me to where I am and it is His counsel that will lead me throughout my future.
The wonderful thing about it is that true joy is found in His plan and in His counsel. Though my planning delights me as I go throughout my day, when I look at my life and ponder what things truly bring me deep down joy, they are the things that God so wisely put in my life.
