About the Workshop

Before the weekend is over, you will gain a deeper understanding of the source of the struggle against sexual sin, as well as clear view of God’s standards for purity from Scripture, in addition to practical wisdom on how to avoid and combat temptation and live purely in the world around you. We take a fast-paced, no nonsense approach to teaching biblical standards. Workshops engage students through large and small group sessions, interactive worship, personal reflection time, and Q&A sessions.

Deeper Devotion has many volunteer positions that we would love to see parents and friends of North Wake sign up for. Follow the directions below to sign-up. If you have trouble, email Kristie Ansley at kristie@deeperdevotion.com.

How to sign up:

1. Visit our Volunteer Sign Up page.
2. Create an account by filling out the needed information.
3. From the Main Options menu, select the Events link.
4. From the Events page, jump to the month of March.
5. Select a day (Friday or Saturday) to view volunteer positions available.
6. Feel free to sign up for more than one position. (Don’t forget that there are two days!)

Large Group One — How Far is Too Far? (Friday Evening)

Rules are good, but they must be based on a ________ ___________ (Colossians 2:20-23)

Small Group One (Friday Evening)

Purpose: To establish confidentiality as a group, to make any needed introductions, and to introduce conversation about the subject of sexual purity.

Question One: What did you think about the opening session’s representation of the world’s view of sexuality?

• What did you think about the points that they were making?
• Were you aware of how much sexuality is used to sell non-sex related products?
• Do you feel that it is hard to escape sexual content on the internet?
• Do you even notice sexuality in the media or are you desensitized to it?

Question Two: After seeing all that filth and after having this discussion, how would you define sexual impurity?

• Is it impure to with these commercials?
• Does impurity go beyond what you see?
  • In what ways?
• Can you be sexually impure even if you aren’t dating anyone?

Large Group Two — Why Should I Care? (Saturday Morning)

You struggle because you have a decision.

There are several upon several ___________being made every moment of life.

Large Group Session Three — How Can I Possibly Remain Pure? (Saturday Afternoon)

What are some real life examples concerning sexual struggles you have either heard about or been involved in?

What is “total awareness” of God’s standard and blessing of a life in pursuit of holiness.

Small Group Two (Saturday Afternoon)

Purpose: This small group is intended for them to reflect on their personal sins. Make sure that you “reflect feelings” by making statements like, “You look like you’ve got something on your mind” or “You seem focused.” This will open them up quickly. Also, in this session, be prepared to answer these questions for yourself if necessary. Also, make sure you stay away from “yes/no” questions. Ask open ended questions: “Tell me about what… What does that look like… how do you…”

Start with prayer. You may also choose to give your personal testimony if you want. It’s completely up to you.

Questions:

• What are some different ways that we or our friends struggle with sexual purity?
• Where do you derive your standards for sexual purity?
• What are some of your standards?
• Do you find it difficult to meet those standards on a daily basis?
• If you’re not struggling now, what could you see becoming a struggle in the future?
• In what ways do you see sexual immorality affecting your marriage?
  • Your future in general?
  • Your effectiveness as a parent one day?
• Who do you talk to about these sins?
• Do you have any boundaries?
  • How would you respond if your boyfriend or girlfriend didn’t have those same boundaries?
• What level of purity would you like for your future spouse to have when you marry them?

If you have time, or if no conversation is taking place, consider getting into the “hot seat” yourself. Let them ask you anything they want to, but make them discuss the topic after you answer.

This will lead into game time. Take the opportunity to seek out a teenager if you feel like they may need more counsel after this discussion.

Large Group Application Time (Saturday Afternoon)

1. We are in a war, so why are we losing battles? Why is there still impurity in our lives?
2. Impurity is mixing your standards with God’s
3. Sexual immorality is receiving or desiring sexual gratification anyone or anything other than your spouse
4. Sexual immorality is wrong because it is self-worship and/or object-worship, not God-worship.
5. Purity is not about what you do, but what about God does in you and you just getting out of the way

Large Group Session Four — What If I Mess Up? (Saturday Evening)

What are basic truths concerning sexual purity and how we are to fight and depend on God’s glory and grace to sustain us throughout the fight?

List a summary of truths that have been communicated throughout entire conference.

Why should we rethink our view of God and God’s view of us?

What does Romans 12:1-2 imply about our lives?

What is the standard God has for mankind concerning sexual purity?

When: May 15, 2004

On May 15, we will be doing our first live workshop on the topic of sexual purity for the youth group of Christ’s Church, in Martinsville, Virginia. (Will you be in the area? Let us know if you’d like to come!)

• What the Bible says about sex, dating relationships, pornography, masturbation, lust, modesty, and more.
• Why our culture is so sex-crazed and how it affects us.
• How to fight for your sexual purity and the purity of those around you.
• The benefits of being sexually pure.
• How to set up an accountability group.
• How to work toward freedom from habitual sins.
• How to have healthy relationships with the opposite sex.
• How seeking to be sexually pure will help you to grow more deeply devoted to the Lord.
