<description>I was looking for a prayer on ambition and pride when I came across your site. The Lord showed me today how prideful and ambitious I am in trying to write a book "for the Lord". I am to write a book but it is not the book I set out wanting to write in my ambition. It is a book that is crucifying my flesh and sending the same message to other Christians.

The point came home to me finally when I was doing some research on Mengele and reading a book about him (of all places!). I was looking for the root of his evil and there was nothing spectacular in his early life except his "ambition, vanity, self love and arrogance. It was not sadism that drove him so much as ambition and self love and he died justifying his actions for a "pure race." How different is that from the attitudes in American (including Christians) that glorify success, materialism, and achievements all for a "worthwile purpose." All you have to do is turn a Christain radio station on and lsiten for a while and well known men are praised, accolades are heaped on them and the name of Jesus is often only mentioned in passing.

I pray that God will continue to show me my ambition and that he will remove it from me. My eyes are on him not "success".
